Aircon repair in Singapore
When an aircon stops working properly, the first job is finding out why. A repair visit starts with a diagnosis: the technician checks the unit, the power, the drainage and the outdoor unit, finds the fault, and tells you what it will take to fix before doing any work.
Tell us what the unit is doing, its make and roughly how old it is, and we’ll pass it to a partner aircon firm, which arranges a visit and quotes for the repair. If a fix isn’t worth it, a good firm will say so.
What a aircon repair includes
The partner firm confirms what its price covers when it quotes. Usually, in this order:
- 1
Diagnosis
The technician runs the unit, reads any error code, checks the power supply and controls, and looks at both the indoor and outdoor units to find the fault.
- 2
A quote before work
You’re told what the fault is, what part or work it needs, and the price, before anything is replaced. You decide whether to go ahead.
- 3
The repair
Common repairs include clearing or replacing a drainage pipe, replacing a capacitor, fan motor, sensor or control board, fixing a refrigerant leak, and replacing a faulty valve.
- 4
Tested afterwards
The unit is run after the repair to check it cools, drains and runs quietly, and you’re told about anything else the technician noticed.
Most firms charge for the diagnosis visit, and some take it off the repair price if you go ahead. Ask how the visit is charged when the firm quotes.
When people book it
- Water is leaking from the indoor unit and a service hasn’t stopped it.
- A unit runs but blows warm air, or doesn’t cool the room.
- A unit won’t turn on, cuts out, or flashes an error code.
- The indoor or outdoor unit has started rattling, buzzing or grinding.
What the common symptoms usually point to is covered in OurKampung’s aircon servicing guide, a sister guide run by the same team.

Cleared, or replaced when it stays blocked or leaks.

What affects the price
It comes with a quick quote. The firm will ask about:
- What the fault is, and whether it needs a part or only labour.
- The part itself. Control boards and compressors cost far more than capacitors or sensors.
- The make, model and age of the unit, which decide whether parts are still available.
- Whether a refrigerant leak has to be found and fixed, and the system recharged afterwards.
- Access to the indoor and outdoor units, especially on roofs, high brackets or in ceilings.
Comparing quotes
Ask how the diagnosis visit is charged, whether the part is new and what warranty comes with the repair, and whether replacing the unit would be better value.
How to prepare, and what happens on the day
Before the visit
- Note exactly what the unit is doing, and when it started. Write down any error code shown on the display.
- Find the make and model, on a sticker on the side of the indoor unit or on the outdoor unit.
- Find any warranty paperwork, since a unit under warranty may need to go back to the manufacturer.
- Clear the space under the unit and make the outdoor unit reachable.
On the day
- 1 The technician asks what’s been happening, then runs and inspects the unit.
- 2 Once they’ve found the fault, they explain it and give you a price for the repair.
- 3 If you agree, they carry out the repair, or arrange a second visit if a part has to be ordered.
- 4 The unit is tested, and you’re shown it working before the technician leaves.
Afterwards
Use the unit normally and check the fault doesn’t return. Keep the receipt, and ask the firm whether its repair carries a warranty and for how long. If the same fault comes back, contact the firm that did the repair first.
Aircon repair in homes and offices
The same service is a different job in a flat, a landed house or an office. Here’s what changes.
HDB flats
In an HDB flat, a fault on the shared outdoor unit of a multi-split system can stop every room cooling at once, while a fault in one room usually points to that fan coil. Tell the firm whether one room or all of them are affected.
Condos
Condo repairs may need management’s approval if the work involves a shared service area or drilling. Check the rules on contractor registration and working hours before the visit.
Landed homes
Landed homes often have several systems and longer pipe runs between floors, which can make leaks harder to trace. Say which systems have the fault and how their outdoor units are reached.
Offices
Office units may be ceiling cassettes or ducted systems, sometimes maintained by the building. Check whether the unit belongs to you or to the landlord before booking, and whether building management must approve the repair.
Questions about aircon repair
Is it worth repairing an old aircon?
It depends on the fault and the unit. A capacitor or drainage fix is usually worth doing on any unit; a failed compressor on an old unit often isn’t. Ask the firm for the repair price and its honest view.
Can the fault be fixed on the first visit?
Often, for drainage problems and common parts the technician carries. Control boards and less common parts may need ordering, which means a second visit.
My aircon is under warranty. Should I book a repair?
Check the warranty first. A repair by someone other than the manufacturer’s authorised service centre can void it. Mention the warranty in the form and we’ll tell you if a partner firm can help.
Does the repair include a service?
Not usually. If the unit is dirty, the firm may suggest servicing it on the same visit, which is often cheaper than booking it separately. Ask for both prices.
